The Satanic Temple is fighting against the new abortion rules which were emitted by the Lone Star State. These new regulations implied the cremation or burial of the aborted fetus. The members of the religious group argued that they will not adhere to the new enforcement rules adopted by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The Satanic Temple claimed that burial rituals represent a very familiar tool used in religious practice.
The members of the group stated that the burial practice is unquestionable when it comes to the US legal history. They have also argued that their belief concerning the “inviolability of the body” is fighting against the new regulations which were imposed. Members of the Satanic Temple asserted that the First Amendment is bound to protect our right to practice what we believe in.
Thus, under the Religious Freedom Reform Act (RFRA), the State is obliged to introduce a compelling reason explaining why authorities want to enable certain rules which trigger the inhibition of adherence to the group’s religious beliefs.
The new set of rules will be available starting on December 19, being bound to prohibit facilities from dumping remains of fetuses considered to be a biological, medical waste. The office of Governor Greg Abbott has recognized that these changes are prone to state the dignity and value of life, expressing hopeful thoughts regarding the legislature which will implement the new rules during the session from 2017.
However, the Satanic Temple will not back down, arguing that the new regulations represent an anti-choice for their religious beliefs. The Satanic Temple is against the new regulations which imply the burial ritual as it represents a religious custom specific for only a couple of beliefs. Some members of this group have claimed that Texas has no important reason to impose these rules because they were not promulgated to encourage safety and health.
What is more, they were issued to harass women, hanging an even heavier burden from women’s shoulders when they decide to end a pregnancy. We all know that there are various reasons which can contribute to the decision of abortion. Some reasons are more or less accepted, while some are harshly judged by the community, especially in religious communities where locals judge women who decide to do this. Others believe that women should be allowed to express their wish regarding their body.
