On Sunday, Senator Chuck Schumer called for the availability of measles vaccine, both for children and adults, throughout schools and clinics statewide, citing that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had reported 102 people who have contracted measles within 14 states.

The mid-Hudson school community members immediately supported the senator’s proposal, including other officials and authorities. Bill Silver, Liberty Superintendent said free vaccines would be very beneficial to many. Legislator Chris Eachus of Ulster County and Superintendent Tammy Mangus of Monticello also thought of it as a good plan, saying that available vaccines will help protect children and families. Health officials now recommend young kids to get 2 doses, while adults get at least one booster shot.
