Over-cautious Uber users can now be more at ease, at least in Seattle for now.
Uber keeps working hard to make all of its customers happy, it would seem. On Thursday, June 10th, Uber has opened up to the idea of scheduled rides. The sub-service for scheduled rides is UberX and the initial location where the option will get to be tried out is Seattle. Nevertheless, it is planned for scheduled rides to come to all Uber users.
Back in September 2015, the transportation service stated that scheduled rides would not be necessary. Uber prided itself on its quality and efficiency. With those values in mind, an Uber user would have no need to schedule a ride or to plan ahead of time.
So what changed? Did Uber speak too soon? Were Uber’s quality and efficiency not up to par? Well, the answer actually is no for either case. Uber has opted to include scheduled rides due to popular demand. Uber stated time and time again that they want happy users. And after every time they stated that, they worked hard to prove it.
Well that is one reason. Another could be that the competition implemented scheduled rides and the option was a hit with them. Either way, when it comes to the transportation service, it doesn’t hurt to try to stay ahead of the curve.
Once the planning for scheduled rides to come to all Uber users in Seattle is set in motion, all Uber users in the city will be able to ask for a ride with up to 30 minutes in advance. Users of rival services, such as Lyft can schedule a ride up to 24 hours in advance however.
While surge pricing can apply to scheduling a ride, the process should generally not have any additional cost. Users can also cancel a pre-scheduled ride, 5 minutes before its given arrival time without any additional charge.
Uber said that as soon as the UberX’s scheduled rides program is done testing, they want to implement the feature in all Uber subservices, such as UberPool and Uber Black. Uber also wants to be able to make the option available in all possible locations.
This change was announced two days after another separate endeavour from Uber in regards to UberPool, which would grant its users a $2 discount on their next Uber ride, if the car did not arrive at its destination in the original estimated time.
With the UberPool’s courtesy refund and with UberX’s scheduled rides to come to all Uber users soon enough, Uber seems to be working hard to make customer satisfaction its main prerogative.
