In a nail salon in Memphis, Tennessee, every person passing by was able to read a big sign placed outside which announced overweight clients that they would be overcharged for a pedicure. The pedicurists will perceive a $45 fee for all obese customers. Deshania Ferguson felt offended by this sign and decided to post a picture of it on Facebook. All followers were outraged by this ruse message, claiming that it is distasteful.
A nail salon in Memphis overcharges obese clients
Sequoia Seaberry, a beautician, argued that she understands the sentiment behind the policy, but the message is terrible. Even if she gave pedicures for thousands of clients and even if she is a small woman who has difficulties in lifting up clients’ legs, she argued that this is part of her job. Every beautician and pedicurists should be able to accommodate the clients if they decided to choose this business.
There is no reason for being rude with their clients if some do not love your job. Clients do not have to be part of these people’s mockery since clients are not to be blamed for the disgraceful salary one gets or for the things some need to do to be paid. Anyone who chooses to work with people needs to understand that they should respect their clients irrespective of their gender, weight, color, race or religion.
The owner admits having a special policy for overweight clients
Another pedicurist commented that she has been in this business for a long time and she had never charged extra money for her clients’ weight. She only charges extra for dead skin or extra crust. However, the owner of the nail salon denied putting up the sign. Strangely, he admitted having a special treatment for all overweight clients.
He stated that he does not want to serve customers who are extremely overweight because of his employees, especially the technicians, find it hard to give them pedicures. Some also argued that there were cases when they broke their pedicure chairs because of overweight customers. Apparently, these special chairs are pretty expensive, costing thousands of dollars.
Shay Arthur, who is a reporter, has shown the owner of the nail salon the picture with the rude sign on it. The owner claimed that the picture could have been taken anywhere and that he is aware that many people are upset because of his policy for overweight clients.
