Overwatch sparked so much interest that there is a queue for on-line purchasing.
It seems that Overwatch porn is frowned upon by Blizzard. The company has issued a notice for porn sites to stop delivering adult content containing the characters of the much-anticipated FPS released last week. However, it is the internet, and Blizzard may not get its wish granted.
There are several unspoken rules of the web, one of them being the controversial Rule 34. According to it, porn parodies exist for everything from Snow White to Star Trek. The gaming community is not spared, either, almost all of the famous characters having an adult film version.
The rule applies to everything, especially if it’s new and trending, so the highly anticipated team-based multiplayer FPS from Blizzard was not spared from being adapted. According to Pornhub, since the 5th of May when the video game entered into its live beta mode, the searcher for Overwatch porn on the website increased by more than 800 percent.
Blizzard is not a very strict company will titanic policies regarding fan renderings of their original content. By the contrary, they are known for the fact that they allow free fan content as long as it abides a few clear guidelines.
One of these golden rules refers to the fact that the company wishes that all of the content that the fans recreate remain T-rated.
Blizzard mainly addresses itself to the younger generations, creating characters that are likable by both teenagers and adult gamers. In order to maintain this rating, the company is now looking to take down the numerous Overwatch porn videos that have been uploading on adult content websites.
The entire situation is a bit ironic from a character design point-of-view. Until recently, when women gamers revolted and started asking designers to put a little more clothes on female characters, all of them were overly sexualized.
Blizzard featured more than half-naked female elves in World of Warcraft, barely covered female characters in Diablo, and not to mention Kerrigen from Starcraft 2.
However, the company took a different approach with Overwatch, creating more kid-friendly, fully-dressed characters. Unfortunately, even these T-rated cute animations spark the interest of adult movies consumers.
Blizzard is currently trying to remove all of the Overwatch porn videos on the internet, but there are slim chances of that actually happening.
