Blizzard is planning to make the Overwatch League a lot more professional, and one of the first steps was to be able to tell one team from the other. At the beginning of this year, the company revealed that players should soon be able to unlock skins for each team. However, this hasn’t only been created for the professional players, as the others can show their support for a certain team by sporting their uniform.
Show your support for your favorite Overwatch League team
At the beginning of 2018, the game will get 12 Overwatch League skins for 12 teams. These will be available for all characters, including Moira, who is the latest to join the game. This means that players will be able to wear the uniform which represents them no matter what character they play.
All these Overwatch League skins will be hidden in loot boxes, just like any other skins present in the game. However, players still get one more chance to get one. Blizzard created a new type of in-game currency specially for these items, called League Tokens. By choosing to purchase a skin through these means, regular players can support their favorite teams.
The profits from the skins will be split with the eSports players
Blizzard said such a system was thoroughly needed to support the professional players. This way, each team will get the right amount of currency depending on the purchases of the fans, and no money gets wasted in the process. Also, as this system is launched, Blizzard wants to be generous. Therefore, at the beginning, all players will receive enough tokens to purchase one skin.
Many other game companies have embraced this idea of open support of the professional players. Playing eSports is quite costly, so splitting some profits with the teams is always welcome. Until the Overwatch League skins go live, there are still plenty of things to set, such as the price of the League Tokens.
