Every year in the short period after Christmas and before the New Year, most people write their New Year’s resolutions and check the last year’s ones. Especially since the Christmas time involves putting some pounds on, and as the summer is only six months away, losing weight is the top resolution for the New Year for most people.
Because of this, most gyms, fitness clubs and yoga centers are giving discounts to encourage people to join their members. According to expert, there is a 50% increase in the number of memberships in January, and they usually pay for a six month membership and most of them attend it for maximum one month.
According to a personal trainer from the YMCA, Nick Mulder, the gym memberships increase in the period between Christmas and the New Year’s Eve. He says that this usually happens because people gain weight during winter and they want to look good during the beach season.
According to statistics done in the United States, losing weight is the Americans’ number one resolution for 2016. Experts say that while 50% of the people who will set that resolution, 24% of them will give up in the first two weeks. Mulder says that the first mistake people make is that they start with unrealistic goals for a short period of time and as that is too much for most people, they quit. He says that in order to keep yourself on track you need to start with small adjustments and push your limits every day. A strong support system is also the key to success, according to Mulder.
Kevin Weigman, one of the members of the YMCA gym also has some advice for the people who want to lose those extra few pounds. He recommends taking baby steps as the best way to make sure you don’t fall off the wagon and also finding a way of exercising and sticking to it for a while. He says that his goal for 2016 is to continue the good job and making the right changes for his body as he grows older.
In the United States, losing weight is the top resolution for the New Year, the second is to be more organized, follow closely by putting more money aside. Because people tend to set unrealistic goals for themselves, most of them will transfer to every New Year list. In order to make sure they fulfill them, people should make diets and exercise according to their schedule and their known limits.
