Having furry little companion can have its perks and much of them are more on the line of companionship and friendship. But it would seem the furry little critter can do much more for you. A couple of researchers from the Mayo Clinic have proven that you can increase sack time quality with a bow-wow companion.
The researchers wanted to find out if sleeping alongside a house pet, be it a dog or a cat, can affect your sleeping cycle and, more important, your sleep quality. There are some among us who consider that house pets and beds just won’t do, for any number of reasons, more of them being on the line of hygiene. But, there many pet owners out there who do enjoy cuddling with their pet companion.
In order to see are really capable of making a difference when it comes to sleep and sleep-related issues, the team of scientists called upon several individuals to participate in a group study. More than 150 people have participated in this study, funded and conducted by the Center for Sleep Medicine from the Mayo Clinic.
According to the researchers, not all of the participants were pet owners. In fact, only 74 of them said that they own pets. When asked about sleeping with pets, circa 20 percent of those who said that they own a pet said that they do no conceive sleeping with a pet in bed. But it is not prejudice we are talking about here. It’s the other way around. Those who answered that they do not allow their pets in bed argued that their night habits can significantly disturb their sleep.
On the other hand, 41 percent of pet owners answered that they regularly allow their pets to sleep alongside them. These individuals declared that their pet did not manifest disruptive behavior at night.
Whether to let or no to let your dog or your cat into bed, that’s entirely up to you. However, should you decide to grant the pet’s wish, please bear in mind a few things. First of all, dogs are perfect for sack time, usually because they’re highly dependent on their human master and they would do almost everything to please us. But dogs, however, cuddly or cute they are, do have the nasty habit of barking in the death of the night.
Cat, on the other hand, aren’t very good sack companions. Most of the cats would use the night time in order to explore or to hunt. However, there are some cat owners who reported that sleeping with a cat can have a very soothing effect.
