The North American International Auto Show has already started in Detroit and Honda Civic and Volvo XC90 are the big winners of the Detroit car show . During the first event of the car show, Honda Civic has been announced to be North American Car of the Year, while Volvo XC90 has been announced as the North American Truck of the Year.
For the car of the year award also competed Chevrolet Malibu, Mazda MX-5 Miata and for the truck of the year the Honda Pilot and Nissan Titan XD were also contenders. The voting took place before the show began and the awards were handed by a selected group of cars and trucks reviewers.
The last time Civic has won was in 2006. This was actually the 10th generation of Honda Civic, which apparently is better than ever. The new Honda weighs less than last year’s edition and has a larger, 2.0 liter engine, while last year it had a capacity of only 1.8 liters. 15 horsepower have also been added, and now the car has a 158 horsepower. The Honda Civic has a manual transmission but like last year, only for the LX version.
According to the reviewers, the new Honda is extremely improved. The design is more sleek and it no longer includes front quarter windows, that gave the car a frumpy look. The car has the best design of the cars released in the last years by Honda. The cabin is also more modern and more intimate. The windshield is very low, and it has actually decreased with 1.6 inches, which allows a better view. The price of the car starts at approximately $19,000 for the LX version and at $20,000 for the improved EX version.
This was the second victory of the Volvo XC 90, after previously winning in 2003. This car is more efficient and safer than its rivals, with a better design. The car has eight speeds and it is automatic, with a 2.0 liter engine. Seven people can ride in the car, which has extremely comfortable seats. The new Volvo has a 316 horsepower.
The interior of the latest Volvo has a screen that can be used for Internet connection, parking, navigation and music. The volume control and the on and off buttons are diamond cut, and the gear level is made out of Orrefors crystals. The seats in the car have now cushion extensions, massage and side bolsters that are adjustable. The air purification of the XC 90 has been improved as well. The standard version of the Volvo XC 90 will cost $50,000.
As the Honda Civic and Volvo XC90 are the big winners of the Detroit car show, we expect them to do very well on the market this year.
