
Average American weight is on the rise
Obesity is a major problem for the Americans, one that causes diseases and hundreds of deaths every year. The highest rate of overweight people (13%) live in the United States, according to a study made in 188 countries. The problem does not seem to be solved as the average American weight is 15 pounds more than it was 20 years ago.
Dr. John De Beixedon, of the Pasadena Center for Medical Weight Loss, said that about ten years ago, half a country had been considered obese or overweight. Now, the situation is even worse, as obesity is in every single state. Moreover, this affects especially the kids and that is how the average American child is also heavier. Obesity should no longer be considered just a cosmetic issue. It has become a chronic progressive disease.
What are the causes that lead to being overweight? First of all, consumption of foods that have caloric content, especially those high in sugar, processed meat or grains. Also, people are eating less fat-fighting foods, such as fruits, vegetables, seeds or legumes. Of course, there are some factors like stress, medication, pollutants or chronic sleep loss which make us gain weight. The major problem is still our diet.
The average American weight is rising because people are doing less exercise, they have more access to junk food and are living a busy life. They are not aware of the danger obesity can pose for their family, for their children.
Obesity reduces our mobility and even cause some emotional distress. That is how hormonal changes are taking place and this may cause more weight. Sleep becomes a problem as obesity shortens its duration. That will produce hormones that stimulate appetite and increase the uptake of fat. A person who struggles with obesity can develop other diseases such as diabetes, heart attack and depression. What is least known is that obesity is the second cause of cancer, especially when we get older and our metabolism slows down.
With the Average American weight on rise, people are looking for ways to stay healthy. The most recommended treatment for overweight and obesity is dieteing. Of course, it is not enough just to eat healthy. You must also exercise and engage in as many outdoor activities as possible in order to keep you in shape.
