Alzheimer’s disease might be transmissible via blood transfusions and severe injuries in a similar way to the Creuzfeldt Jakob Disease (or CJD), researchers believe. In a milestone finding presented these days, scientists ay University of California said it was plausible that the “seeds” causing dementia can be moved from brain cells of one individual to another.
However, the necessary proteins resulting in dementia are a type named prions that can adhere to steel surfaces, like medical equipment, and are immune to traditional sterilization. This means that it can be hypothetically possible to be contaminated with Alzheimer’s disease tissues after blood transfusions, too difficult, or obtrusive dental procedures, like root canal operations. And, since the incubation time can be more than 40 years, individuals will not know for a very long time that their body has been contaminated.
Scientists came on the finding while researching the brains of several patients who died because of CJD. All of them had developed this illness after being treated with HGH (human growth hormone) extracted from human bodies from 1950s to 1980s, where after the procedure was prohibited.
Unexpectedly, half of the sufferers had massive quantities of amyloid protein – this forming sticky tissues developing between brain cells that block them from interacting with each other correctly in Alzheimer sufferers. Amounts that were more compact were noticed in the others’ brains. Even if none of these people had dementia, experts say that it is probable that eventually they would have developed severe stages of this affection.
What has to be considered here is that, bedsides there being infrequent Alzheimer’s illness and family cases of Alzheimer’s affection, it can also be an obtained type of Alzheimer’s disease. However, the experts want people not to be worried about organized surgical techniques, and to disregard any idea of Alzheimer’s disease becoming “contagious” just like the flu.
