A massive solar storm touched the magnetic sphere of Earth, filling the sky with shimmering lights. The night sky was abundant in phenomena similar with Aurora Borealis which were visible in the south of the US’s continent. This iridescent event started on October 25, in the morning. Experts claim that this phenomenon might continue to occur in some locations belonging to the northern latitude.
The Space Weather Prediction Center at NOAA has classified the solar storm as being G3. After further analysis, scientists have decided that the storm was measuring only G2 in intensity on the morning of October 26. The scale which was used by SWPS for measuring the geomagnetic levels had grades from G1 to G5.
These terrible and powerful geomagnetic storms might impair the systems of satellites or the GPS’s signal. Depending on their intensity, these events cause by solar storms are capable of damaging the power systems situated at high altitudes. The usual effect of such geomagnetic storms is the appearance of auroras which light up the sky in spectacular green lights.
The geomagnetic storm was registered to emit auroras in the southern part of Alaska, northern part of the US, in Russia and the northern Europe. The amazing displaying of bright, colorful lights was also accessible to people leaving in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The solar storm which generated the geomagnetic one could also be visible in more other regions where usually this does not occur, such as Iowa, South Dakota, Idaho and Washington state due to its increased intensity.
The phenomenon of a geomagnetic storm is generated when powerful particles coming from the Sun and radiation streams touch the magnetic field and the atmosphere of our Planet. The turmoil caused by the union between Terras’ magnetic field and solar matter produces streams of colorful light called auroras.
According to scientists, these geomagnetic storms do not only display beautiful lights. They also generate terrible effects like radiation hazard for astronauts who are in the outer space conducting a space mission.
Therefore, this is one of the reasons why specialists should predict such beautiful but dangerous events to avoid jeopardizing the health of those experts working on the protective layer of our planet. The solar storms which generate electromagnetic storms may be viewed as a sign of nature’s strength to control us.
