Scientists have unveiled the existence of a pyramid built inside a Mayan pyramid. The Kukulkan temple is situated in Chichen Itza, Mexico. Archeologists have established that the temple was constructed in the 9th century. Nevertheless, they have argued that the smaller pyramid located inside the temple was more likely built long before the 9th century, being meant to commemorate the gods.
Archeologists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (NAUM) have used an innovative technique, making use of X-rays to scan the stone from every layer of the temple. They have built a model on the computer which allowed them to see through the construction.
The important thing about this revolutionary technique is that it enabled them to analyze the structure of the Mayan temple without harming it. Inside this spectacular temple, experts have revealed some hieroglyphs which dated back 3,800 years ago. They were located near a large tomb of a pharaoh. The old manuscripts contained information about a fleet preparing for a battle.
Back in the 1930s, inside Chichen Itza, archeologists managed to unveil the mysterious structure of a pyramid within a pyramid, looking just like a Russian Doll hiding numerous layers. The smaller pyramid inside the temple was measured to have about twenty meters in height. Many historians presupposed that the technique used to develop this construction could have used the model of Russian Doll.
Denisse Argote, a research professor at the National University of Anthropology and History, has asserted that the magnificent and mysterious Mayan temple might be hiding a lot more crucial information. Argote has claimed that taking into consideration the chronology of Chichen Itza; the Mayan temple could have been raised between 600-800 AD.
In this way, we infer that the people who have built it already had an idea about the existence of a cavern underneath it. These revolutionary breakthroughs could boost and broaden the horizon of knowledge regarding Mayan civilizations, their customs, and habits, but also the way they were organized,
The National University of Anthropology and History has revealed that the small pyramid could be evidence of a possible shrine. Last month, there were uncovered two secret chambers in the Great Pyramid of Giza, estimated to be 4,500 years old.
