Researchers have shown that waiting frame periods are pointless for women who trust their decision.
A new law was introduced in many countries stating that women who intend to make an abortion are obliged to respect waiting periods. Doctors maintain their hope, believing that maybe after a few days of thinking some women might change their attitude and accept their pregnancy. New research has demonstrated that lately women who want an abortion do not usually change their mind.
Even if the law states that every woman must have a waiting period before acting upon the matter, their answer is still positive, regardless of if after or before the waiting period. The study was testing five hundred women from Utah who were planning to have an abortion, seeking for medical help. After three weeks, this group of women has contacted again, but not all of them responded.
Scientists intended to interview every woman, assessing only factors which would trigger her uncertainty. The results of the study were not as promising as expected. The women who were participants in the survey still argued that they did not change their opinion concerning pregnancy. Most females were confident when making the decision, the percentage being almost the same for all people who needed to decide upon any surgery.
Meanwhile, researchers had revealed that eleven percent of the women who were pregnant at the beginning of the study, were still pregnant even when the follow-up interviews were conducted. This group of women was placed in the shadow of uncertainty from the beginning. But unfortunately, 89% of the women who took part in this study continued to follow their purpose, being very particular about their choice.
Probably a very terrible result of the previous studies had shown that women barely regret the decision of wanting an abortion. Thus, most women find the waiting frames inconvenient and a significant loss of time. Guttmacher Institute has demonstrated that in the US, one-third of the women are forced to drive tens of miles away to get to use abortion services.
It is very unpleasant for those people to drive so many miles even twice, considering the waiting period. For them, it is imperative to get back to work as soon as possible because they do not afford taking so much time off and losing so much tie for a situation like this. It is terrible that they are obliged to spend more time, money and resources for nothing. Probably not every woman are used to think twice before making a life-changing decision. Which one are you?
