Study shows Tinder users may have low self-esteem

Have you ever used Tinder? Is it one of your favourite applications? If the answer is yes,  a new study shows you may have a negative perception of your own body. It seems that those who are not using this application have a better opinion about themselves and higher self-esteem that those who do.

According to the research, both men and women who use Tinder have a lower level satisfaction with their faces and bodies.Moreover, men are feeling more negative about themselves what females. The respondents, 1044 women and 273 men, were asked several questions about their faces and personal thoughts about the way they look. The mean age was 20.56, as young people are generally more obsessed with their looks.

It was a surprise for the researchers that men exhibited lower self-esteem than female users. One of the reason this is happening is because there are more of them on the applications. This things allows women to be more discerning when they decide if they want to talk to a person or not. Tinder users know that men tend to swipe right more as they have to compete for females’ attention.

If you have not used Tinder by now, there are some things you should know. Tinder is a location-based dating and discovery app than help you communicate with a mutually interested user by chat.

The app was launched in 2012 and it has registered more thounsands of users. These users are making about one billion swipes every day. Swiping right for potentially good matches and swiping left on a photo to move to the next one.  It is like a game and more and more people are using it.

Moreover, Tinder is using Facebook for the user’s profile. When you make a profile, you wil have  already a profile picture. There are also list of matches based on the number of mutual friends or common interests. If two users like eachother, they can talk within the app.

In conclusion, it seems that Tinder users have a negative perception of their body image. This leads to low self-esteem, especially among male users.  Tinder remains one of the most popular applications in the world, a date app with more than 40 million users in the whole world.
