UN’s new goal is to bring countries together for an extraordinary space mission in 2021.
The UN has decided to team up with the Sierra Nevada Corporation for the organization of a space mission. This corporation has developed the Dream Chaser spacecraft that is designed to land at a usual airport. The UN made public the plan they have developed at the International Astronautical Congress, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The head of SNC’s space division, Mark Sirangelo asserted that UN’s perspective is to reach out countries and cultures in order to share with them a fresh view of the cosmos. He claims that it’s more advantageous for countries to develop a collaboration from which everybody could benefit from, instead of having a single state striving to organize a space mission by itself. The most important thing in the world is unity.
The UN’s plan is to set out in space the craft called Dream Chaser in 2021, just to undertake a two-weeks flight around Earth’s orbit. Sirangelo has declared that this spaceship has the size of a normal jet. The company who created it plans to develop 25 stations, meant to help many countries implement microgravity experiments. Considering the fact that UN’s plan aims to nurture the relations between countries, any UN member can apply to be part of this project.
The UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) intends to offer technical support for those countries that want to experience microgravity. The CEO of UNOOSA’s Space Application Section, Luc St-Pierre, argues that all these preparatory processes take a lot of time, including the training, the tests that need to be conducted, and the necessary courses that need to be taught. The space mission is not only about the experiment in itself, but also about the stages that need to be checked during preparation.
St-Pierre also argues that they need to verify all the details, especially those concerning security, food and fulfilling bare necessities during the travel. They are currently testing studies which include aspects like medicine, energy, and microbiology, but they are also examining the growth of plants in microgravity. Sirangelo argues that their goal is to determine countries to construct a solid bound. They want to make people curious about the possibilities that need to be explored in outer space.
Do you believe that UN’s intentions will determine all those countries at war to bury the ax and work together for a better world?
