According to recent reports, a GOP’s elite family was very generous with a super PAC focused on smashing Trump.
We should all meet the Republican spending millions to take down Donald Trump: the Rickets family’s matriarch and long-time Republican Marlene Ricketts. Reportedly, Ms. Ricketts recently but quietly donated $3 million to a PAC specialized in destroying The Donald.
The report, which was leaked Saturday, also shows that the money will be used to fund anti-Trump television ads, voter guidelines and negative e-mails. Apparently, the Our Principles PAC’s sole raison d’être is to prevent the Republican front-runner and real-estate mogul from winning the nomination.
The PAC was funded mostly by Ms. Ricketts and her husband and Chicago Cubs owner Joe Ricketts, and it is led by Katie Packer, a former campaign staffer of Mitt Romney. Packer described Ted Cruz and Donald Trump as ‘very weak candidates,’ but she added that Trump has the advantage of being ‘downright dangerous.’
Packer also said that if Trump becomes President, he could destroy the GOP. She explained that the party can no longer exist if an individual that negates all the views the Republican Party has advanced over the last two decades gets into the Oval Office.
Indeed, Trump was a reason of division among his fellow Republicans. He didn’t win the affection of die-hard conservatives either. He has been criticized because his views often strayed from the party’s line. In the meantime, the billionaire has become especially popular among right-wing voters and Independents, especially those that share his anti-establishment views.
The Ricketts family was behind the $4 million anti-Trump campaign in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa. Their super PAC is the most powerful group that currently tries to dig Trump’s political grave.
Ricketts money was also used in Gov. Scott Walker’s short-lived campaign, while Marlene fueled other presidential hopefuls’ presidential bids, as well. According to reports, she donated $10,000 fror each candidate via super PACs. Jeb Bush, Risk Perry, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham all benefited from Ms. Ricketts’ generosity.
Her son, Pete, is Nebraska’s governor.
Sources familiar with the matter said that the anti-Trump super PAC has spent over $3.5 million to date. Packer told reporters a few days ago that the group won’t back despite the GOP front-runner’s success in South Carolina primary. She promised that more ‘aggressive efforts’ will be launched against Trump starting next month.
In a recent written statement, Packer also pledged to keep the public informed on the Republican hopeful’s “liberal statements and inconsistencies.”
As a response, Trump tweeted Monday that the family should better be careful, and that they have ‘a lot to hide.’
