According to the local police department, a man was killed in a lawnmower accident. It appears that the victim was performing regular golf course maintenance work when the lawnmower he placed on a small hill descended and trapped him in the pond, killing him on the spot.
The incident took place at the Boca Raton Broken Sound Golf Club. It appears that the 20-something man was employed at the club as a golf course worker.
Sandra Boonenberg, the local police spokeswoman, declared that the analysis of the death scene shows that the victim was performing his regular duties on the golf course.
According to the analysis, the man probably tended to the lawn, placed his lawnmower on a hill and descended next to the pond. Somehow, the lawnmower rolled down the hill and trapped the victim between it and the bottom of the pond, claiming his life.
The Boca Raton police accompanied the man to the hospital, but the doctors were unable to do anything in order to save his life, so he was pronounced dead.
The spokeswoman also declared that the victim had no signs of outward trauma and that his death was most likely accidental. The authorities are waiting for the autopsy results.
The identity of the victim was not released to the press, for the moment.
However, the lawnmower accident wasn’t the only water-related death during this holiday weekend. According to the Sherriff’s Office from Palm Beach County, on late Sunday, a car veered off the main road and crashed into a canal in Canal Point.
The driver of the 1998 Ford Contour is yet to be identified. The passenger was Sophonie Saint Hilaire, a 38 years old woman.
Judging from the way in which the authorities found the vehicle, the car was veered into a grassy field and then rolled into a canal.
When the investigators got to the scene, the two victims were trapped in the upside-down Ford. Both of them were rushed to the Palms West Hospital. Unfortunately, Hilaire was pronounced dead at 9:15 PM, while the yet unidentified driver survived only ten more minutes, being pronounced dead at 9:25 PM.
During the weekend, a toddler almost drowned after his older siblings left the door opened. The little boy wandered into the family pool but was rescued in time. He is still hospitalized, but doctors believe that he will make a full recovery.
