Bill Nye talks big plans to combat climate change in his newly released book “Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World”.
Bill Nye, known as The Science Guy is brilliantly making the case for the power in our hands to fight climate change. Personally, regionally, nationally and globally. To the climate skeptics and climate change deniers he can only say ‘bring it on’. His complex yet enlightened views on the means to address climate change are brought down to everyone’s understanding.
Much like he brought science into almost every child’s life, Bill Nye’s new book brings climate science, mitigation and adaptation systems into everyone’s life. Bill Nye’s career started with Boeing, where he was an engineer. Since then, he’s been ascending rapidly to a dear public figure, adept of science and its transformative power. And bow ties. Bill Nye has his own line of bow ties, a classy accessory.
With the same class, he is making use of his vast knowledge and innovative capacity as well as his sense of humor to bring climate change to the front. Bill Nye talks big plans to combat climate change in his new book.
Firstly, he believes, this is the generation that must take control of climate change. The time is ripe. Climate change will affect the planet and all of us anyhow. How much we hurry this process and how much we contribute to it is up to us and the efforts we invest in the process of mitigation and adaptation.
Energy is key to meaningful steps in this direction. Divesting from fossil fuels and becoming more involved with renewables will pave the way forward. Bill Nye believe this is scientifically and technologically sound and possible. All we need is strong will. To do so he suggests that carbon emmissions are taxed accordingly. Not through a cap and trade system, but a different system that would automatically discourage the world from further investing in fossil fuels. Because money is always at the core of the problem.
Renewable energy on the other hand is cheap, plentiful and…renewable. Current systems and the power grid spike the prices of renewably-sourced energy in an unsustainable manner. However, progress is already showing. Riding the wave and taking the opportunity to develop on this aspect has never been so momentous.
As for detractors of the idea, citing the right of developing nations to benefit from the same level of technology we have, Bill Nye has an answer. Clean technology and renewable energy sources are the future. They provide the same civilizational advantage with less impact on our survival and a higher quality of life. It is a win-win situation. Developed nations are in the position to lead the change. Exporting a new era to those less advantaged is the key to providing a sustainable future for us all.
