Gender Neutrality in Sims 4 Clothing

The Sims is one of the most enduring real-life simulators. People have entire virtual families that they tend to every day, caring for them, watching them grow, graduate, get marries, have kids, and so on. However, some users complained about the fact that the characters were too normative, this sparked the creation of a new customization option that included a gender neutrality feature.

In order to be a true real-life simulator, The Sims now offers the possibility of customizing your character exactly the way you want him or her to look. Gender fluidity has been added to the game, allowing the players to create new characters that don’t necessarily adhere to the norm.

Now, players have the possibility of creating female characters dressed in tuxedos in the Ellen DeGeneres style, and male characters dressed in high heels like Prince.

The company declared that they are trying to listen to their users and satisfy their demands as good as they can. It seems that the upgrade in question was planned for quite some time.

“The Sims is made by a diverse audience, and it’s really important to us that players are able to be creative and express themselves through our games,” a company representative stated.

When asked about why the clothes, visualization, and other customizable techniques were separated by gender in the first place, neither Maxis, nor EA responded.

One explanation could be the fact that the previous versions of the animated characters were too complex to be modified easily.

One thing is for sure, Maxis is surely not against the concept of gender neutrality or fluidity given the fact that the company has already instated the possibility of creating gay couples in their game.

Thanks to the new gender neutrality feature, players will now be able to change the clothing, walking styles, physiques, and accessories of their characters as they see fit.

Now, Sims enthusiasts will be able to dress their male characters in tight dresses and pumps, or swimsuits. They will also be able to adjust their walking and physical expressions as to make them look more feminine.

The implementation of this new features shows just how much public opinion has evolved in the latest years, making way for a larger percentage of acceptance of the grey areas.
