A couple of weeks ago, we got the scent of a rumor, according to which Night Dive Studios are seriously thinking about taking a crack at developing the third part of the System Shock franchise. System Shock 3 is on the way, only, this time, it won’t be coming from the boys working for Night Dive Studios
Recently, a new clip has emerged on YouTube, showing tiny bits of a game which might eerily resemble System Shock. At first glance, one would think that this is basically the revamp of System Shock. A few months ago, the boys and girls from Nigh Dive downtown boasted that they are on their way of remastering System Shock 1. These rumors ultimately proved to be true, and each and every one of us is waiting to see how the remastered game will look like.
Coming back to the sequel promise, it would seem that Night Dive’s initial intents were somewhat misleading, in the way the company decided to focus on revamping the game rather than starting another one from scratch.
So along with the promise of getting yet another sequel, there comes yet another surprise. Looking Glass Company, the big chief himself when it comes to great and immortal games such as the Thief series or Ultima Underworld II, is coming back from the dead. As we know, Looking Glass shut down all activity in the early 2000s and since then no one heard anything about them.
It would seem that they were the guys behind the big announcement. Yes, you heard it right, The same company which published the first two System Shock PC games is now working on a sequel. As to a possible launching data, we dare not speculate without any hard data.
As of now, all that we have are a lot of promises and a video clip on YouTube intended to be some sort of teaser trailer. From the clip itself, we can’t draw any valid conclusion as to what has changed since the release of System Shock 2. But one thing is for sure: it would seem that the player will once again have to face SHODAN, the evil artificial intelligence who wants to destroy Earth.
Giving the fact that almost 16 years have passed since the released of System Shock 2, every fan of the company has high hopes concerning the game’s sequel. Without a doubt, the producers will work around the clock in order to make the last installment of the game worthy of its predecessors.
