Sue and Bill Gross have donated $40 million for a new nursing home in the perimeters of the University of California. Their latest donation comes as their continuous efforts to try and change the world through research, education and healthcare.
William Gross is an American author and financial manager. He is the co-founder of Pacific Investment Management and he wrote Everything you’ve heard about investing is wrong and Bill Cross on investing.
In 2006, the Gross family has decided to donate $10 million in order to create the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, of which people all around the world are benefiting.They later funded the Sue and Bill Gross Hall, which is a CIRM institute that mainly focuses on studying stem cells. In 2012, another floor was constructed on top of the hall, with the help of an additional $4 million donation.
Even though the Gross family has donated a lot of money to the University of California, they helped other institutions as well. To the Duke University they donated $23.5 million, to the Sage Hill School in Newport Coast they donated $3 million and to the Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, they donated $20 million. All of these considerable donations were given in only one year, in 2005.
In 2008 they donated $8 million to the National Postal Museum, and that created the biggest philately gallery in the world, called the William H. Gross Stamp Gallery. A center called Sue and Bill Gross Surgery and Procedure Center was constructed in the area of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with the help of a $20 million donation. A 2013 donation of $20 million helped build a hospital ship that would help the inhabitants of West Africa. The donation was made towards Mercy Ships, and because of his donation, the hospital on the ship will be called the Sue and Bill Gross Healing Hospital. In the recent years, Hoag Hospital received $2 million and the Mission Hospital Laguna Beach $10 million.
Sue and Bill Gross are also the main individual donors for Doctors Without Borders. Until today, the Gross family has donated $38 million to the organization. Their foundation called the William and Sue Gross Family Foundation, managed to donate approximately $800 million until today. For their extremely generous donations towards the University of California, they have received the highest honor given by the university, called the UCI medal.
Sue and Bill Gross have donated $40 million for a new nursing home, which is the largest donation ever made towards the California University.
