Hearthstone is probably Blizzard’s most successful attempt at bringing and eSport to life within such a short time span. Over the course of two to three years, more and more players have joined the community and made a stable, competitive game. Blizzard has been making a lot of money out of it, of course, and the stakes have been raised for Hearthstone to $1 million. Practice, play well, demonstrate your superiority in the duel and you might find yourself in the possession of this tempting sum after you won the Hearthstone World Championship.
Blizzard are not exactly known as a company who listens to their fans, but they do provide some of the best gaming experience around. Nonetheless, the company has vowed to make game changes based on the feedback that it will be receiving from its players. The game has undergone some major changes and the stakes were not risen so much for no reason. From now on, you will really have to deserve to enter the world championship.
Let’s start with the tournaments: there will be more of them, a lot more. Every regions will have four tournaments from now on because Blizzard wanted to increase the number of champions in each region. If there are good players out there, we need to hear about them more often. The number of season championships has been increased to three and then there is the “Last call invitational” in which all members from every region will face each other for the ultimate strength of power.
Are you familiar with instant byes? Don’t be anymore, because we won’t be having them ever again. Instant byes were sort of favorable for many players who did not truly deserve to be in the tournaments and they would advance without having played at all.
But what actually got a lot of people interested in the game is the new tournament point system, which is completely different from what we had until now. It actually looks like professional players will get fewer points than they did until now and players who are making their way up will receive more points than they did before. While this encourages competition a lot more, it also has its drawbacks.
While stakes have been raised for Hearthstone to $1 million, the game is undergoing massive changes that Blizzard will need to treat carefully. The game is very successful, but the point is to keep it that way.
