As part of her sentence, Jessica Marie Cross of Springdale was ordered only three months behind bars out of her five-year sentence. The woman will also have a three-year probation period, during which she must check herself into a clinic for drug and alcohol addictions.
According to the court documents, backed up by the recording retrieved from the Columbia McDonald’s, the accused entered the restaurant well after closing time and spent approximately 35 minutes looking at the restaurant.
At around 1 a.m., the security camera shows a van pulls in front of the drive-thru. Seconds later, Cross gets out of the van and approaches the window. After peering through the window for a while, the woman opens it, puts her arm inside, and reaches for an empty soda container.
After failing to place the cup inside the machine, Cross opens the second window and enters the restaurant. She casually fills up the soda container with some juice, puts a plastic lid on it and goes about her business.
Half an hour later, the Springdale Hamburger thief can be seen walking towards the drive-thru window while carrying a cardboard box filled with McDonald’s food.
Cross places the box on the counter and attempts to shove it through the small opening. A Happy Meal box falls in the process. Cross picks up the Happy Meal, places it inside the cardboard box, and managed to squeeze it through the window, where a pair of hands can be seen grabbing the package.
She later exits the window which she closes behind her. According to the McDonald’s staff member who notified the authorities, the Springdale hamburger thief managed to steal a significant amount of food and $1,400 from the cash register.
