If you are a Snapdragon fan, it’s time to get excited. Qualcomm announced today that the next graphics processor for mobile CPU, the one and only Snapdragon 820, is going to be almost twice as fast as the one before.
Needless to say, your phone is going to be able to run games that are far more complex than the ones it is running now, but the real deal ist hat Snapdragon is looking forward to a more brighter future for its latest Snapdragon CPU alongside the Adreno 530 GPU. According to them, they have a specific interest in “next-generation uses of virtual reality, augmented reality computer vision.”
While this is great news to hear, it is also not much of a surprise given the quick advancements made in mobile VR solutions, which could be seen in the last year. Some specific examples would be the Google Cardboard or the Gear VR which belongs to Samsung.
VR is definitely not targeted only towards mobile phones. Desktops will also be pushed to the limit with this new technology so that they offer the best experience yet. It is speculated that this might be the best thing happening for 4K screens on phones, so the faster we get it, the better.
Concerning the Adreno 530 GPU, Qualcomm declare that it is also almost twice as powerful as the previous Snapdragon 810 GPU. And it does not stop here: Qualcomm wants to bring these processors to cars in the near future as an upgrade to the Snapdragon 602A.
What you also need to know about the new processor is that it is going to feature a Spectra camera imaging unit. This means that you will be able to see more colors and it also comes in with a feature called “hybrid autofocus framework”. This specific feature implies that you can choose to focus on a specific portion of a scene with great speed.
The company is also working on improving the digital zoom experience with its new GPU. This is going to involve better quality and better zooming. We might actually start looking forward to more improved cameras from phones in the near future. And we want all the Android phones to have it. Not just LG and Samsung.
