Putin’s perfect birthday gift this year was a hockey party.
It’s hard to believe that Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, could have had another perfect gift.
Putin, who turned 63 on Wednesday, played a game of hockey with N.H.L. and won it.
After he received a notification from Russia’s defense minister according to which he had initiated a cruise missile towards Syria, thing which confounds America’s plan of action in the Middle East, Putin got equipped with skates and uniform and went on the ice.
The event took place in the Shayba Arena, located in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. He was a member of a team entitled Stars of the N.H.L. which, over the years, has included famous hockey players, such as Pavel Bure.
The match was broadcasted live by the national television in an attempt of honoring the Russian president.
Parts of his team were also Vyacheslav Fetisov and Sergei Shoigu, the minister who notified him on the cruise missile early that day. The game ended with Putin holding a big trophy.
After scoring 7 goals, Putin led his team to a 15-10 victory. As for the opposing team, it has also included famous people who were sanctioned by America concerning Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine: the businessmen Gennady Timchenko and Rotenberg brothers. The crowd sung the president “Happy Birthday.”
The amateur hockey league has been founded by Putin in 2011 and included other hockey stars and senior officials. The matches are broadcasted nationally on a daily basis.
This initiative harmoniously combines with other Putin’s daring ideas. For example, this year he went down on a submarine in the Black Sea. In addition, he signed a law bringing back to life a fitness program dating back to the Soviet period, entitled “Ready for Labor and Defense.”
Putin chose to spend some years in international isolation. After that, however, he came back with its military intervention in Ukraine, which led to economic sanctions for Russia. The states’ intervention in Syria is now going to extend the conflict, according to the American officials.
However, Putin told his defense minister that he sees this action as having positive consequences.
