PetSmart recalled canned food for cats and dogs due to metal contamination.
PetSmart decided to recall its canned food products destined for cats and dogs due to metal contamination. The Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground has been withdrawn from retailers after the company received complaints about the food containing metal.
Based on the data provided by the FDA, the canned food was sold at Pet360.com, PetSmart.com, PetSmart locations nationwide and PetFoodDirect.com. They also argued that this product was voluntarily withdrawn as a precautionary measure. The company received complaints from customers who claimed that the food might be contaminated with metal.
This could cause a lot of harm to animals which might choke on them or might suffer other complications when digesting the meals. The manufacturer received complaints, but not PetSmart directly. Nevertheless, PetSmart decided to recall the cat and dog food. Producers declared that no other Grreat Choice food cans were reported to cause issues.
Apparently, the recall only affects a particular lot of dog food which was available on the market and purchased by customers between October 10, 2016, and February 7, 2017. The contaminated product is the canned food of 13.2 oz called Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground. The best by date on the can’s bottom is 8/5/19. The UPC is 7-3725726116-7, and the Lot number is 1759338.
PetSmart representative stated that they were not informed about any reports of injury or illness in pets related to the consumption of this type of canned food. Pet owners who bought these cans of dog or cat food should stop feeding them to their pets. They were advised to bring the recalled cans to their local PetSmart store for an exchange or a full refund.
If you purchased a product from this lot of dog food, then you should consider replacing your pet’s supply of food for its own safety. It is better to be cautious than to let your dog or cat suffer. If those cans of food contain pieces of metal than your pet might develop digestive problems or it may choke when trying to swallow the food.
Customers who need more details about the recalled canned food should contact PerSmart Customer Service at 1-888-839-9638 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. CST.
