North Carolina Nonagenarian Confronted About Money Missing from Safe
On the 23rd of April, the Benson County police officers were summoned to James Nordan’s house after a woman, later identified as the man’s 83-year-old wife, told the 911 operator that her husband lost his temper and tried to kill her with a revolver.
The authorities discovered the assailant standing in front of his house, still clutching his .38 caliber revolver. When confronted with the domestic incident, the North Carolina nonagenarian initially declared that the weapon went off by accident.
After examining the house and interviewing the victim, the investigators discovered that the man gave a false statement. According to the police report, several bullet holes were found in the living room’s ceiling, the mantle, and even the refrigerator.
The victim told the investigators that she had an argument with her husband about a sum missing from Nordan’s safe. More than that, the victim tried to tell James that it was he who removed the money from the safe the day before the shooting.
Convinced that the woman was lying, the nonagenarian retrieved his gun and went after his wife. Seeing her husband armed, the woman fled to a neighbor’s house. She recalls hearing several gunshots while running away.
When the authorities confronted Nordan regarding his false statement, the man allegedly loaded his revolver and pointed it towards the officers. Following a standoff that lasted a couple of minutes, the North Carolina nonagenarian put his revolver away after he saw one of the police officers reaching for his service weapon.
The man was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly firearm with the intent to commit murder.
