Soon, NASA will implement multi calories bars for astronauts who will be sent into space exploration. These calorific bars will be the new meal of astronauts who will set off for longer space missions. Usually, astronauts were provided with a list of two hundred meal options available at the International Space Station. They can diversify their space diet.
NASA has argued that it will be tough for them to provide the necessary food for the whole crew if they are bound to set off on Mars or another distant planet. Astronauts will embark on NASA’s Orion spaceship. They will not receive further cargo deliveries, and they will not be able to dispose of trash. Thus, they will be forced to take with them what they will be able to carry.
To save space, they can carry with them some multi calories bars which can be considered the perfect breakfast meal. Jessica Vos, who is the deputy health and medical technical authority for Orion, has stated that their purpose is to save some space by reducing packages. Thus they thought to implement calorific bars into astronauts’ diet. They will be wandering in space for several weeks, and they cannot afford to carry large food packages.
Using calorific bars, a lot of space will be saved when storing the food. NASA’s experts are currently working on developing these multi calories bars which will constitute the perfect breakfast meal. They are trying to develop bars which, besides the increased amount of calories, they will also need to be tasty. Specialists already know how important could a meal be, influencing astronauts’ morale when they are far from home, and they miss the real food.
Scientists are still testing the bars. Some individuals from HERA, a habitat from Johnson Space Center where people analyze the impact of long term missions have tested the calorific bars. The report has proved that astronauts argued that the multi calories bars need the implementation of some refinements concerning the texture and the flavor.
Food experts are also trying to design a broad range of such bars to assure their acceptability in the astronauts’ crew. Besides this new plan, NASA is also trying to develop new ways for astronauts to grow a significant part of their food supply during missions, thus always having fresh food.
