As the New Year’s Eve is just two days away, that means one thing. Everybody’s trying to write their New Year resolutions and most of the time that only means repeating the ones they didn’t accomplish this year. A study proved that the top resolution for 2016 of the Americans is losing weight, followed by getting more organized and saving up money.People join gyms and start mostly extreme diets, for maximum two weeks since the New Year. If this year your resolution is to lose weight then you need to follow Michael Pollan’s diet plan that consists of mostly eating plants.
If you have some spare time, then you should watch his documentary called In Defense of Food, which will air tomorrow on the PBS Stations. If you can’t make it, then make sure to check it online in the following weeks, as it will majorly help with your dieting.
Michael Pollan’s books include The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. He says that being an extremist never helped anyone in their diet, as people need moderation and small, slow steps in order to succeed. He also says that when it comes to eating, you should let your anxiety aside and be more relaxed about the subject.
The people’s anxiety could be understood though, as obesity and diabetes increase every day in America. According to the documentary, this occurs because of diets that mostly contain meat, fat, white flour and sugar. It appears that the sugar consume every day by the Americans has increased with 1,000% since 200 years ago.
Pollan recommends moderation for everything you eat. He says that vegetables, meat, fruit, grains and fish are optimum for a healthy lifestyle, with meat eaten in limited portions. He also suggests avoiding supermarkets when buying fruit and vegetables, and choosing farmer’s markets instead that provide real organic produce.
Pollan agrees that is difficult to lose weight when produce in the supermarket are not at all organic and when people only have time for processed and quick food. If you can’t afford organic and fresh produce, which we have to admit is pretty pricey, then the frozen or canned vegetables are the next best thing. Homemade meals don’t contain as many calories as junk food, and you are advised to make dinner as much as you can.
Michael Pollan’s diet plan is not an easy one, but if you try your best, then you won’t fail to see results. Not only will you start losing weight, your health will improve as well.
