If you enjoy reading we have some good news for you! A new study shows that book readers live, on average, two years longer than people who do not read at all. So if you want to live longer, you should read more.Data from more than 3,500 participants was analysed. All the people were over the age of 50 and they were asked some questions about reading.
The research team took into consideration many factors, such as gender, education level, income, and race. They then made three groups. One was for the people who did not read any books, the second for those who read almost three hours a week and the last one for those who read longer than that. What did the researchers find out? Well, it seems that those who read more were 17 percent less likely today in the next 12 years.
The reason why this is possible is still unclear but we are sure that reading has a positive impact on a person’s life. We had already known that children who read more will be able to have a better income than those who do not read at all.
People who read more have more advantages and here are some of them. Reading can stimulate our mind. This is why people who are doing this activity can live longer. It prevents the progress of mental diseases and is very helpful for your brain. Moreover, it reduces stress. When you are tired or you just want to relax, the simplest way to do this is by reading a book.
Furthermore, when you read, we improve our knowledge with information that may help you one day. If we read more we will have a better vocabulary by gaining exposure to more words. A well-read person can get easier a job or develop relationships no matter where he/she is. If you want to practice a foreign language, the easiest way to do it is by reading books and learn new words.
Reading is also helping people with their writing skills as you will know more words. You will be surprised of how well one can focus after he reads so pay more attention to reading. In conclusion, our advice is to read more because it has a lot of benefits and is also a relaxing activity to do in your free time.
