The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed its list of 2018 nominees
COUNCIL CHRONICLE – The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just announced its nominees for its 2018 induction into the Hall of Fame. There are 19 nominated acts on this list, with nine of them being first-time nominees.
Artists are eligible to get nominated for induction in the Fall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album. This edition’s first-timers include Rage Against the Machine and Radiohead, which are both in their first year of eligibility.
There are also a number of artists that just received their first nomination, although they have been eligible for quite some time. Such acts include Dire Straits, Judas Priests, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Sharpe, Eurhythmics, and Moody Blues.
There are also some artists that, although they received previous nominations, never actually reached the final list. Examples include Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode, The Zombies.
2018 Nominees and the Induction Process
For the Performers category, after announcing the nominees, the Rock & Roll committee sends voting ballots to over 900 members of the music industry, historians, and artists (including all former Rock Hall inductees). The five acts that received the most votes then become then become that year’s induction class.
Starting with 2012, fans also got the chance to vote for their favorites. Each person can vote for a maximum of five performers from the 2018 nominees list. The top five most voted acts from the fans then form one ballot.
According to the Rock Hall, this is then “weighted the same as the rest of the submitted ballots”.
The other categories, besides Performers, are the Ahmet Ertegun Award, the Early Influencers, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Award for Musical Excellence.
Fans will have two months to cast their vote and choose their favorites. The Class of 2018 inductees are set to be announced in December 2017. According to schedule, the 33rd Annual Induction Ceremony will be taking place at the Cleveland Public Hall on April 14.
