Gotham Has Sentimental Moments
The way Gotham’s second season is evolving shows great promise. But even though this particular series of events is related to how chaos will take over the city, Gotham has sentimental moments that we can easily remember. Such moments were shared in between Selina Kyle and Bridgit Pike, also known as the new Firefly. Their relationship is developing quite nicely and it shows a side of Selina that we have yet to dive into until now.
Selina Kyle, the future Catwoman, has been only seen as the proud street prowler who takes care of herself on the streets of Gotham. She has no true friends, nobody to turn to in times of need. She only has to trust herself and her way usually gets her out of trouble. But even a lone wolf can crave for the love of another from time to time, so it looks for the lamb who wants to be its friend.
We have only seen Selina take care of Bruce and Ivy, but it has never been a compassionate care. It always felt like more of a “let’s get this over with” than true care. She does have her good side though and now with the Firefly emerging, we get to see how Selina develops her good side and leaves her pride and ignorance for another time.
Bridgit Pike’s life changed when she burned the young GCPD officer alive. It was a totally new level for her: no more blowing up safes and buildings, she took a life. Abandoned by her brothers and having been faced with arrest, at the very least, Selina stepped in and helped Bridgit escape. The “meh” attitude was gone and we could see that Selina actually wanted to do the right thing.
We can see the future Catwoman turning from a street warrior to a mentor. She believes in Bridgit and that she can be able to take her life into her own hands without the aid of anybody else, especially her brothers whom they both agreed that they are not true family. It is possible that we might see a very strong and independent Firefly by the end of the season and all of that thanks to Selina.
Gotham has sentimental moments and we have been “educated” with them since the start of season 1, but you cannot help but wonder that something has changed now. Mostly because it is Catwoman we are talking about and because she might be tore up about Bruce’s feelings for her and the way Alfred treated her.
