Apparently, the next big thing when it comes to smartphones is to equip them with a curved screen. The new Google Pixel 2 might also feature one. Since 2014, Samsung has been promoting these edge displays with their Galaxy Note Edge. Nevertheless, it appears that the competition has caught up and other brands started developing smartphones with edge displays.
Google wants to implement a curved screen to its next Pixel line
A future Pixel smartphone from Google may also be outfitted with such a display. Google intended to invest about $880 million in LG Display to equip the next flagship phone. Nevertheless, there is an important detail which must not be missed, namely that the OLED panels which Google wants to invest in are of the flexible variety. This means that there is a chance for the next generation of Pixel smartphones to feature one of these curved displays.
Even if Goggle stated that it is interested to make this investment, no papers were signed since LG argued that it is considering the proposal. Thus, there exists a chance that this deal will fail. Moreover, to make an investment does not mean to place a manufacturing order. Nevertheless, having the chance to choose OLED panels is Google’s benefit in this collaboration.
This company tries to close a deal with LG to purchase edge displays for its upcoming Pixel line
LG is aware of the fact that Google released its last Pixel smartphone almost six months ago and it is probably working on developing a potential successor. Specialists argue that even if LG will close the deal and will sell Google edge displays for the upcoming Google Pixel line, the curved screen will not be ready in time for the release of Google Pixel 2. Fans should be less enthusiastic to this respect because the new smartphone might not be curved or edgy at all.
A curved screen is a new trend which is known to be a hot commodity if we were to consider the current market climate of smartphones. Samsung launched the new Galaxy S8 which features a curved screen. This smartphone has improved its technology. The upcoming iPhone 8 is also said to feature such a display. Apparently, Google wants to enter the race and compete with other big tech companies before the smartphone market gets full with copycats..
