After a long, nervous wait, Sony is finally releasing the free Driveclub version on PlayStation Plus.
Two years ago, the game was widely and anxiously expected. It is only this week that the wait ends when you’ll be able to claim your own copy of Driveclub. The Plus Edition of the racing game, coming on PS4 from Evolution Studios is expected on June 25th.
The hype surrounding Driveclub initially has started to fade within the two years since the announcement, yet, the launch will see how much success the racing game can still harness.
Considering the PlayStation Plus Edition comes with limitations, some voices already sound pretty uncharmed by Driveclub.
Limitations were set in place so no further server meltdowns would be experienced as it happened with the launch of the retail version. The first day of Driveclub will bring about offline access to the racing game. Afterwards, online access will gradually be granted as it rolls out to users.
Therefore, on June 25th download the title and enjoy the offline version while patiently waiting for the online access to be granted and online races to take off.
Thankfully, this rather embarrassing episode is coming to an end. Both Evolution Studios and Sony are looking to wash the bitter aftertaste of the last-minute delay that caused Driveclub to miss the launch of Play Station 4. Had the racing game been launched then, Driveclub would have been the crown jewel for the Play Station Plus and Play Station 4.
Adversely, Driveclub’s launch was delayed by one year so full segments of the game could be developed anew. Code had to be entirely overhauled as the retail release of Driveclub sent servers into havoc due to large demand. Evolution Studios had to take control of the situation. Sony even hired a team to check multiplayer quality.
Now, come June 25th, Driveclub will hopefully show off the benefits of all tweaks performed by Sony and Evolution Studios alike.
One official comment concerning the much awaited rollout reads:
“We’ve spent a long time preparing for this launch after some difficult and unexpected setbacks. To make absolutely certain that all players have the smoothest and most stable experience possible, we are going to be duly cautious about how we release the game this time around.”
Play Station Plus members will see the roll out soon enough. Without any disappointments hopefully.
