500 ml of tap water half an hour before eating main meals significantly helps reduce weight, as researchers from the University of Birmingham have declared. The simple intervention could be hugely beneficial and extremely easily promoted by healthcare professionals.
In order to come up with the findings, obese adult participants were recruited from general practices and monitored over a 12 week period. Each of the participants was offered a weight management consultation and they were advised on how to adapt their lifestyle and improve their diet and levels of physical activity.
From the total amount of study subjects, 41 were asked to drink water before a meal and 43 were advised to imagine that they had a full stomach before eating. The ones instructed to drink water before meal lost on average 1.3 kg more, compared to the others, in the control group. Furthermore, individuals who drank the 500 ml of water before all three may meals reported significant weight loss, namely 4,3 kg over 12 weeks. Those who have chosen to drink water just once, before a main meal, lost on average 0.8 kg.
Drinking water before a daily meal can be defined as one of the easiest methods to lose weight. Diets don’t work all the time and we are not always equipped with the necessary amount of energy to exercise on a regular basis.
Water is nevertheless essential for our health. It rinses toxins from the body, it transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells, it lubricates joints, protects the body’s tissues and organs and it regulates body temperature.
Water has a giant amount of benefits, as a new study has suggested that drinking water before a mental task can boost brain performance, helping us work at full power and performance.
Some more extended studies need to be performed in order to gain a better understanding on how water preloading can influence weight loss.
The more water you drink, the more benefits for your health. As we get older, we all gain some extra pounds and that is most of the times a significant problem for most of us. Then, the mission impossible appears on the horizon: we choose diets, we exercise, we monitor our caloric intake, we go to the doctor and we embark on a never ending cruise to lose some of that almost unbearable burden.
Who would have thought that weight loss can be such an easy task? Just drink the water, keep calm and watch as your body mass slims down.
