China organized a conference in which the problem of corruption in the organ donation system was debated.
Doctors from all over the world have gathered at a conference in Beijing to fight against corruption in organ donation system. They are combating against the idea of performing transplants after prevailing organs from prisoners who were executed. China has invited to the conference the medical staff from the Montreal-based Transplantation Society and the World Health Organization requesting some changes which need to be made in the transplant system. All these men of science have also demanded the ban on using organs which pertained to executed prisoners.
Authorities and medical staff from other countries believe that China is not accurately notifying the figures which are supposed to reflect the organ donors. China seems to be known as one of the countries where the organ trade is developing on the black-market. Probably this is the reason why the figures reflect only a small number of organ donation, China being categorized as the country with the lowest range in organ donation. Its medical system implies that they are in a constant lack of personnel and hospitals.
To try and become transparent, the Chinese government intended to come clean to the media stating that it promises to put an end to a practice which violates human rights. The government takes the whole responsibility for opposing and stopping the practice which encourages coercion and execution. This conference was held in a ballroom inside the Great Hall of the People, which is situated next Tiananmen Square, a building destined to events including foreign leaders or communist events.
Medical staff present at the conference has detailed their talks with some donors, but they have also described their visits in several hospitals in the country. Unfortunately, they have found out that the number of medication treatments given to donors after suffering the procedure is proportional to the number of cases of organ donation.
Dr. Jose Nunez, who is an organ transplant adviser, working for the World Health Organization, has claimed that he believes that China is about to develop a very prosperous and corruption-free medical system. Other doctors were not of the same opinion with Dr. Nunez, arguing that they still think that Chinese hospitals make use of inmates’ organs when organ donation is compulsory. China is considered to perform the greatest number of executions, although the government did not make public any figures.
