America should not adopt environmental isolationism and it should fight against climate change together with the rest of the countries.
We all know that climate change is still one of the most significant problems we are currently dealing with, but specialists tell us more about environmental isolationism. Last year, the Paris Agreement proved to be effective. Some countries have amended the Montreal Protocol to reduce the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which are known to be the most dangerous category of greenhouse gasses.
The whole world decided upon developing worldwide market-based mechanisms to help decrease the emissions of carbon dioxide from civil aviation. Nevertheless, after Donald Trump was elected president, all the efforts started shuttering. He argued that climate change is a hoax. Thus, the United States was concerned whether they will continue to fight against climate change, still playing a leadership role.
Trump’s comments about this worldwide problem and the prevarication of his Cabinet appointees for international climate policies may place the United States at odds with all the other countries of the world. However, despite all these ideas, America should not transform into an isolationist climate state. The other countries of the world seem to be bound to continue confronting the threats posed by climate change.
The future of humanity hangs by a thread. We are the only ones who can save ourselves. Our lives and this whole planet, together with all the other species, depend on our effort to combat the most ardent problem which concerns all humans equally. The United States needs to understand that there are many reasons which should influence them to not give up to the international climate action movement.
All the trade partners and allies of America continue to support the Paris Agreement which can help us save the planet. Syria, Uzbekistan, and Nicaragua were the only countries which refused to be part of this agreement while 194 other countries signed it. In December 2015, where 130 heads of government met during the Paris Agreement, they emphasized the terrible effects of global warming on security, well-being, and health.
The global warming problem was also discussed during the G20 and G7 international summits which debated worldwide issues. Climate change represented the center of officials’ discussions. If America were to adopt an environmental isolationism, it would be bound to risk everything. If Trump’s administration refuses to honor international pledges on global warming, they will find it difficult to transform countries into the new government’s priority problems.
