The Nobel Prize in Literature 2017 was just announced, and it goes to Kazuo Ishiguro.

BREAKING NEWS! COUNCIL CHRONICLE – The Nobel Prize Award in Literature for 2017 was just announced, and it is going to Kazuo Ishiguro, an English author.

The Royal Swedish Academy declared, in its press release, that Ishiguro is an author “who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world”.

Kazuo Ishiguro, a Short Presentation

Kazuo Ishiguro is a novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. He was born in Nagasaki, Japan, but his family moved to England when he was just five years old. He is one of the most celebrated contemporary fiction authors and renowned in both the English-speaking countries as well as the rest of the world.

Besides the just announced Nobel Prize in Literature, Ishiguro also received a Man Booker Prize in 1989 for the novel The Remains of the Day, as well as receiving three other nominations for this prize. He was nominated for several other prizes as well and won many more for his works.

Back in 2008, The Times included him on the list of “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945”. The author’s most recent novel, The Buried Giant, was released in 2015 and its predecessor, Never Let Me Go, appeared in 2005 and has since also been adapted for the big screen.

Kazuo Ishiguro was involved in the screenplay for The White Countess, among others, and his latest short fiction collection, Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall, was released in 2009.

Besides Never Let Me Go and The White Countess, his other work to be adapted for the screen is The Remains of the Day. Ishiguro is also a dedicated guitar player.

The themes 2017 Literature Laureate Kazuo Ishiguro is most associated with are: memory, time, and self-delusion. #NobelPrize
