Grab your Witcher Enhanced Edition digital copy now!

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – Still waiting for CD Projekt Red to announce Cyberpunk 2077’s launch date? Well, in the meantime, have a go at The Witcher Enhanced Edition, the game that marked Geralt of Rivia’s long-lived saga. And to sweeten the pot, Red’s game can be downloaded for free from Good Old Games’ official website. Here’s what you need to do to get your hands on the game.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition Considered a Milestone in Open-World RPG Genre

After all the positive reviews, not much could be said about the first installment in The Witcher series – immersive, epic, brooding, The Witcher Enhanced Edition continues to fascinate even after a decade.

And now, the game that paved the way for the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Wild Hunt can be played or replayed for free on GOG.

As part of their summer sale, GOG has announced tons of giveaways; The Witcher Enhanced Edition is one of the many.

To get your hands on a digital copy of the game, start by creating a GOG account. If you already have a GOG account, you’ll need to download GWENT The Witcher Card Game. The good news is that GWENT is also free to download. After adding the game to your library, you will receive a redeeming code which you can use to add The Witcher 1 to your game library.

Conclusion

A word of warning before you proceed – Witcher 1 is not Witcher 3! What you see in the third game of the series is the results of many years of work and study. The first game could be seen as unpolished or even crude, but the immersion factor is way beyond anything you could get from a 2007 game.

Regarding game mechanics, combat, in particular, Witcher 1 is closer to Knights of the Old Republic duology than to the Wild Hunt. Have fun, folks!

Ancient Peruvian Doctors Better at Trepanation Than Civil War Surgeons, New Study Finds

June 13, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

Trepanation

Ancient Peruvian doctors took extra precautions when performing a trepanation.

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – As astounding as it might seem, a team of medical researchers from the University of Miami discovered that ancient Peruvian doctors achieved better results in brain surgery compared to American Civil War surgeons. Unearthed skulls revealed that prehistoric Peru doctors maintained a trepanation mortality rate between 17% and 25%, compared to 46% to 56% in Civil War battlefield neurosurgery.

Peruvian Honed Trepanation Skill Over Centuries, Study Reveals

David S. Kushner, a University of Miami clinical professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation, and the project’s senior researchers declared that the recently published study casts a different type of light on Ancient neurosurgical techniques.

The study, which was based on the analysis of 800 prehistoric Peruvian skulls, revealed that prehistoric doctors achieved a far better survival rate compared to those from the Civil War era.

An analysis of the skulls proved that Peruvian docs were masters at their crafts, meaning that they had a good grasp of the head’s anatomy.

For instance, Peruvian docs performing a trepanation, knew that perforating the brain’s thin membrane was an open invitation to infections. Furthermore, these ancient neurosurgeons would drill several small holes to relieve intracranial pressures instead of drilling a single, big one. Some skull had as many as seven small holes in them.

Based on the University of Miami’s estimates, the rate of mortality in prehistoric Peruvian neurosurgery was between 17% and 25%.

On the other hand, Kushner’s study revealed that three centuries of medical development did not help American Civil War surgeons lower the mortality rate. Statistics show that the mortality rate in case of Civil War trepanations was somewhere between 46% and 56%.

Conclusion

Kushner explained that military surgeons often had to improvise. Poor quality surgical equipment and the lack of disinfectant could have contributed to the mortality rate. The study’s lead author said that battlefield surgeons were often poking around head wounds without having their hands sterilized.

The Arizona officer shared his story on Twitter.

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – An Arizona police officer had a close encounter with death while responding to a domestic incident on Friday. The officer was shot in the abdomen by a 51-year-old. His police belt stopped the bullet.

Arizona Officer Lucky to Be Alive After Near Miss

Meet Nathan Stout, a police officer at the Tucson Police Department. Apart from being a model law enforcement agent, Stout also has quite a compelling story.

As Stout revealed, on Friday night, they’ve received a call from a man who claimed his stepfather threatened him inside a bar.

The man told the 911 operator that the assailant, 51-year-old Roy King, entered the establishment and brandished a firearm before leaving.

Officers Nathan Stout and Steven Clark were sent to King’s house to investigate the allegations. When Stout and Clark arrived, they saw King’s car parked in front, and the man skulking around back.

King opened fire soon after the saw the Arizona officer and his colleague approaching his front door. During the fire exchange, Stout was hit in the abdomen.

Fortunately, his belt stopped the bullet. Stout and Clark returned fire, making King retreat to the house.

Hours later, the police officers arrested the suspect, after convincing him to surrender.

Chris Magnus, Tucson’s Chief of Police, declared that the incident was “way too close.”

Stout shared his amazing story on Twitter. Of course, the post received many likes and was shared a few thousand times.

Conclusion

The recent incident offers insight into what police officers have to face each day. Stout was lucky enough to emerge unscathed from the incident.

On the other hand, since the beginning of 2018, 36t law enforcement officers died in the line of duty. Chief Magnus declared that most died during gunfights.

Meanwhile, King, the man who opened fire on the Arizona Officer and his partner was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Clearwater mother saw the incriminating movie while surfing her newsfeed.

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – What would you do if one day you would find out that your child turned to crime? A Clearwater mother seems to have found the perfect answer – turn him over to the authorities. Sandra Green of Florida said that she was heartbroken after realizing that her son was wanted for burglary.

Clearwater Mother Found Footage of Son Breaking into a Home

As the saying goes, a mother would do anything to protect her child. Almost anything that is. A Clearwater woman’s story about handing her son over to the police is as heartbreaking as it is educational.

Sandra Green is a Clearwater resident and the mother of an 18-year-old body. Mrs. Green thought the world of Kevin King, her teenage son until he stumbled upon a movie shared by the local police department.

According to the Clearwater mother, the video shared by the law enforcement agents depicted three men breaking into a house. Mrs. Green had the shock of her life when she realized that one of the burglars was her own son.

During a press interview, the woman told a reporter that she felt betrayed, heartbroken, and swore that she raised her son to be a good, law-abiding citizen.

However, after realizing that he was wanted man, the woman phoned her son. Mrs. Green told Kevin to come home, get a shower, and grab something to eat because he will soon be in jail.

Last week, acting on the information from Green, the authorities arrested King and charged him with grand theft and burglary.

Conclusion

Based on the police report, King and two other men broke into a Clearwater home on the 25th of April. King and his accomplices stole a pair of Jordan sneakers, a pair of headphones, and sports memorabilia.

The Clearwater mother told King that she’s going to pay his bond under one condition – that she returns to high school.

Love Triangle Leads to Radnor Township Murder-Suicide

April 25, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

Love Triangle.

Love triangle ends with a murder-suicide in Pennsylvania.

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – Pennsylvania detectives have reason to believe that the Radnor Township murder-suicide might have stemmed from a love triangle involving the shooter’s husband. On the 24th of April 2018, authorities discovered the bodies of two women inside the kitchen of a Lowrys Lane home. Cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound.

Wife Finds Out About Love Triangle, Guns Down Rival

Based on what Radnor Township detectives learned so far, 47-year-old Jennair Gerardot, a Wilmington resident, discovered that her husband, only identified as Mark, was having an affair with Meredith Sullivan Chapman, a University of Delaware graduate and VP at the Villanova University.

Gerardot’s activity suggests that, prior to the murder, she exchanged several email and text messages with Mark and her victim, letting both of them know that she discovered their affair.

Although the clues found at the crime scene pointed towards being an instinct-driven incident, the homicide detectives pointed out that Mrs. Gerardot was well aware of what she’s doing and spent a lot of time putting together the plan.

Recently discovered evidence shows that on the day of Chapman’s murder, Jennair rode a train from Delaware to her Radnor Township house and donning a disguise.

Upon reaching the house, Jennair waited for Chapman to come home and to confront her about the love affair with Mark. While in the kitchen, Jennair took out her gun and shot Chapman in the head before using the same weapon to commit suicide.

The bodies were discovered by Mark, Gerardot’s husband.  William Colarulo, the Radnor Township Police Superintendent, declared that the homicide detectives are hard at work, searching through Gerardot’s online and phone history.

Conclusion

The Police Superintendent pointed out that there were no indications of Mark’s wife being capable of gunning down a person. More than that, Colarulo pointed out that this fatal love triangle has been going out for some time.

Two South Carolina Women Arrested for Injuring Homeowner during Exorcism

April 17, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

Exorcism Gone Wrong in South Carolina

The assailants used a similar crucifix during the exorcism.

On Monday, the South Carolina authorities arrested two women, wanted in connection with a home invasion and attempted exorcism which occurred on the 19th of March. According to the authorities, the assailant forced their way into the house and beat the victim with a cross believing that she’s possessed.

Assaulters Denied Victim Food during Exorcism

This Monday, the authorities arrested 28-year-old Brittany Jones after the woman physically abused her elderly neighbor. Tiara Jones, Brittany’s 26-year-old sister and accomplice, is also wanted in connection with the murder but all attempt to locate her have failed.

Based on the police report, on the 19th of March, Brittany and Tiara broke into their 57-year-old neighbor’s home and restrained the victim, allegedly trying to ward off a supernatural entity that took refuge inside the woman’s body.

According to the victim, who was not named, during the said ritual, Brittany and her sister struck her with a wooden crucifix and denied her food, water, and access to a bathroom. She also claims that the exorcism lasted for at least one day during which she was repeatedly beaten with the wooden cross.

The very next day, the woman managed to escape and seek refuge at a neighbor’s house from where she contacted the authorities.

When the law enforcement officials arrived at the victim’s Lorick Circle home, they’ve found evidence of a struggle. According to the police report, the house was in disarray as the suspects appeared to be searching for something.

Later that day, the victim was taken to the hospital, where she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Doctors said that apart from a few bruises on her arms and chest and the fact that she hadn’t had a meal in over a day, the patient is otherwise in good health.

Brittany was taken into custody, charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping and booked into county jail on a $100,000 bond. Her sister’s whereabouts are unknown.

Cincinnati Chiropractor Accuse of Breaking Toddler’s Ribs Because He Wanted a Boy

Cincinnati Chiropractor Trialed for Child Abuse and Assault/

Cincinnati chiropractor allegedly broke 28 of his 3-month-old daughter’s ribs.

COUNCIL CHRONICLE – A Cincinnati chiropractor was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment and child abuse after doctors discovered that the man fractured his three-month-old daughter’s ribs. The man pleaded not guilty during his trial, claiming that her daughter had an accident at home.

Cincinnati Chiropractor Resentful for Having a Daughter, Prosecution Claims

According to the court documents, Jason Bittner, a 33-year-old Warrant County resident and the co-owner of a chiropractic clinic, assaulted his 3-month-old daughter back in February at his Cincinnati house.

Fearing for the life of his daughter, Bittner took the baby to the nearby children’s hospital and told the ER doctors that she had a little accident at home. However, a close examination revealed that the child had 28 cracked ribs and signs of damage to the left side of her brain.

The doctors called the authorities who later arrested Bittner and charged him with aggravated assault and child abuse.

During his police interview, the man first claimed that her daughter had a house accident but later admitted that he deliberately broke his daughter’s ribs because she was a ‘fussy’ child. More than that, the investigators discovered that the man’s horrendous deed was partly fueled by his being resentful about not having a boy.

Conclusion

The Cincinnati chiropractor would later refute those claims, as he pleads not guilty in court. At the moment, the judge ordered a $25,000 bond for Bittner. According to his attorney, his client might walk out of jail should he post the bail. However, he will have several restrictions such as wearing an ankle monitor and ceasing all contact with his children.

Robert Shapiro of the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center declared that Bittner’s daughter is recovering well, but she may still experience some issues, as her left side of the brain has been irreversibly damaged.

March 8, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

911 Recording

Massachusetts man used a hunting knife to stab a med student at a library public. 911 recordings of the incident are available.

On Wednesday, the Winchester law enforcement officials have released the 911 recordings of the Massachusetts library slaying in which a 22-year-old student lost her life after being repeatedly stabbed with a hunting knife. The authorities declared that the recordings are of public interest and should serve as a reminder that patients with mental illnesses should not be ignored.

911 Recordings Reveals People Shrieking over Stabbing

During a press conference held on Wednesday, Peter MacDonnell, the Winchester Chief of Police, announced that the 911 recordings depicting the hunting knife slaying that took place last month at a Massachusetts library can now be consulted by the public.

MacDonnell added that, by doing so, the authorities are hoping to prevent future massacres. Last month, 23-year-old Jeffrey Yao, a former Winchester High School student, went into the library and repeatedly stabbed 22-year-old Deane Stryker, a New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine student.

The 911 recordings released by the authorities reveal blood-curling shrieks from the people who witnessed Yao’s attack, and other frantically trying to contact the authorities. After stabbing Stryker, Yao was preparing to deliver the final blow, when the woman managed to escape and flee to the front desk.

Yao pursued Stryker but one of the library’s staff members, a 77-year-old woman, tried to help the woman, getting stabbed in the process.

The authorities later arrived and took Yao into custody. Stryker was rushed to the hospital where she later passed away due to her injury. According to the coroner’s report, the 22-year-old was stabbed several times in the stomach and in the head.

Conclusion

Since his arrest, Yao was transferred several times from prison to the hospital to receive treatment for his mental condition. MacDonnell declared that Yao’s is well-known by the Winchester authorities, having been involved in several crimes due to his mental illness.

Mother of Kaylee Muthart, the Woman Who Gouged out Her Eyes, Speaks Against Drugs

February 28, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

Kaylee Muthart remains blind.

On the 6th of February, while under the influence of methamphetamine, Kaylee Muthart gouged out her own eyes.

Katy Thompkins, Kaylee Muthart’s mom, has recently opened up about her daughter’s tragedy. Kaylee Muthart had shocked an entire nation when she gouged out her own eyes in front of the Anderson County church at the beginning of February. The 20-year-old is still in the hospital but, according to her mother, her condition has greatly improved since she was brought in.

Kaylee Muthart Consumed Methamphetamine Laced with Another Substance

On the 6th of February, soon after taking an undisclosed amount of spiked methamphetamine, Kaylee Muthart, gouged out her own eyes on the nearby railway and then wandered off, until she was discovered by a couple of churchgoers.

Horrified by the sight of the 20-year-old woman holding her eyeballs in hands, the pastor told some of his most faint-hearted parishioners to head back inside the church and wait for the authorities to arrive and pick up the young woman in distress.

According to the authorities, Kaylee Muthart was apprehensive even before the arrival of the paramedics, shoving anyone who tried to get closer. It took the combined efforts of several paramedics, police officers, and churchgoers in order to subdue the young woman and to get her inside the ambulance.

Unfortunately, following the incident, the woman was left blind. When confronted by the authorities, Kaylee Muthart recalls slipping in and out of consciousness and something about a disembodied voice ordering her to gouge out her own eyes if she wanted to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Muthart’s tox screen revealed that she consumed a high dose of methamphetamine laced with an unknown substance. The combination induced vivid auditory and visual hallucinations which prompted the woman to harm herself.

Following the incident, Kaylee’s mother took it upon herself to warn other parents about the devastating effects of drug abuse.

Tucson Couple in Custody for Abusing Adopted Children

February 21, 2018 By Lee Raulin Leave a Comment

Tucson Couple arrested

Tucson couple arrested after authorities learned that four children were forced to use a metal after being denied access to a bathroom.

The Tucson authorities recently arrested a couple who allegedly kept four adopted children in horrid condition with no access to food, water, and bathroom facilities. Authorities declared that the Tucson couple was taken into custody shortly after one of the children escaped the house and sought refuge in a nearby convenience store.

Tucson Couple Would Force Children to Use a Bucket Instead of Bathroom

On Tuesday, the Tucson authorities arrested 64-year-old Carol Gutierrez and 69-year-old Benito Gutierrez. The Tucson couple was charged with severe child abuse after the authorities learned how they treated their four adopted children.

According to the police report, on Tuesday, the owner of a convenience store called 911 and told the emergency dispatcher that a malnourished child entered the store seeking help. The call led them to the house of the Gutierrez family where they’ve discovered three other children, ages 6 to 12, living in squalid conditions.

All three children were kept in separate bedrooms, barred from the outside and locked on the inside. Moreover, the authorities discovered that the children were left without food, water, electricity, and denied access to a bathroom.

Later, the authorities learned that the Tucson couple placed a single metal bucket inside one of the rooms and forced the children to use it.

According to the authorities, this isn’t the first time that a child managed to escape the house and draw attention to the couple’s deeds. When confronted by the authorities, the Tucson couple could not provide a plausible motive regarding the ill-treatment.

Conclusion

For their deeds, the Tucson couple has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. All four children were removed from the house and taken to the hospital, later to be placed in a foster home. At this point, it’s not yet clear if the couple hired a lawyer to represent them during the upcoming trial.
