COUNCIL CHRONICLE – Joshua Lee Webb, the 37-year-old schizophrenic Oregon man who was seen walking into a grocery store with his mother’s severed head, has been committed to a mental facility. On Tuesday, an Oregon jury found him guilty of homicide by reason of insanity.
Schizophrenic Oregon Man Was Catatonic When Cops Found Him
According to the incident report, on the 14th of May 2017, a Colton grocery shop client called the emergency line to report seeing a man carrying something that looked like a severed human head.
When the authorities arrived at the grocery store, they saw Webb standing in the middle of the store with a woman’s decapitated head in his right head, and a knife in the other. He was taken into custody without incident.
The arresting officers who testified during Webb’s trial declared that the man appeared to be in a catatonic state. Moreover, the hospital staff who treated Webb said that the suspect remained in this state for several hours after admission. Reportedly, after a while, Webb could be heard telling a member of the staff that he had a good nap.
Around the same hour the grocery store clerk called the authorities, Sarah Morris-White, Webb’s sister, dialed the emergency number to report a homicide.
According to the woman’s testimony, she entered the house to visit Tina Webb, her mother, only to find her headless corpse.
Eventually, the schizophrenic Oregon man confessed to killing his mother and her dog. Webb also told the authorities that he tried to stab a grocery store customer.
Conclusion
On Tuesday, an Oregon jury found him guilty of murder by reason of insanity. Webb will be committed to a psychiatric facility for treatment. Although he could be eligible for parole if the hospital’s boards decided so, he’ll be under strict supervision for the remainder of his life.
