Yoselyn Ortega was found guilty of murder on Wednesday.
COUNCIL CHRONICLE – The jury has spoken – Yoselyn Ortega, nicknamed the ‘Killer Nanny’ is guilty as charged. The verdict was on Wednesday, concluding a 7-week-long trial that taxed both jurors and the Krim family, compelled to relive the October 2012 events.
Yoselyn Ortega Mental Issue Defense Shattered by Prosecution
On Wednesday, the jury found Yoselyn Ortega guilty of butchering 6-year-old Lucia Krim and 2-year-old Leo Krim in October 2012.
Despite Ortega’s attorney pressing towards having the killer nanny committed to a mental facility, as her previously ‘undiagnosed’ mental condition was at fault for the October slayings, the prosecution shattered Valerie Van Leer-Greenburg’s defense, stating that envy was Ortega’s motive and not her fleeting mental status quo.
The prosecutors proved before judge and jury that Ortega’s jealousy towards Krim almost perfect family was what made her take up the knife and butcher Leo and Lucia.
In the last day of Ortega’s trial, only Mr. Krim was present, this wife being indisposed. As the jury read the verdict, Yoselyn Ortega remained unmoved save for a few teardrops upon exiting the courtroom.
Mr. Krim remained unfazed, casually shaking hands with the prosecutors and other members of the jury before leaving.
Soon after the verdict was made public, Mrs. Krim uploaded a post to her social media account in which she wrote about how much she loves her children.
Conclusion
The killer nanny’s trial took a toll on every party involved, even the members of the jury. Silence reigned in the courthouse when a bereaved Mrs. Krim recalled how she saw the emptiness in her children’s eyes or how their bodies were covered with blood.
Mr. Krim was also compelled to recalled during his stand the long morgue hallway and how much he struggled to maintain his composure upon seeing Lucia and Leo’s bodies lying on the cold slabs.
