Starting this week original Duff Beer will become available to retailers in Chile according to official sources from 21st Century Fox.
While your average beer company has to spend millions on advertising just to become a household name in one country, Fox has the rights to produce what could truly be the most known beer name in the world, Homer Simpson’s favorite brand, namely Duff Beer.
The famous beer from the TV show The Simpsons, will now officially be produced and sold on the retailer market. For the first time the fantasy beer will become reality with the approval of Fox and Matt Groening who until now refused to give his consent for mass production of the product.
As a result of his refusal, several companies have pirated the name and created doubtful quality items with the brand name in Europe, South America or Australia. The Duff name is so well known that any bottle containing it is a sure seller in any supermarket (as long as no one gets food poisoning from drinking it).
Duff Beer is the creation of Matt Groening and is seen as almost a character in itself on the Simpsons TV show. Duff is mainly a parody of the stereotypical dime a dozen commercial beer, and the Simpsons TV Show used it to portray many of the wrongs of the alcohol industry.
Although in the animated series , Duff is a popular beer, it is also the center for many of Homer’s stories and the cause of many of his ailments.
Homer Simpson is many times portrayed as an alcoholic and a run of the mill loser, and Duff is seen as his favorite way of punishing his brain.
Despite the bad reputation of Duff Beer and it’s producers in the series the real life bootlegged versions that unlicensed companies have been selling especially around Europe have enjoy great success.
Until now the real life Duff was just like the parody animation version, a overpriced poor quality product produced with one goal in mind and that is cold hard cash. But Fox has the opportunity to create a best seller , if the original Duff bottles will contain an at least acceptable taste and quality product.
In short all Fox needs to do in order to massively cash in on this opportunity is produce a medium quality beer and market it under the Duff name, which does not seem like a far-fetched concept at this time.
Fox announced that Duff will be a deep golden premium lager, but whether or not premium will mean great taste remains to be seen.
Fox officials state that Duff Beer expand to other markets and will be available in Europe and other South American countries by the early period of 2016.
